Wanting to go to ODU?

I’m a Master-at-Arms in the U.S. Navy Reserve (E-3). I graduated high school in 2008 with a GPA around 2.88 or 2.89. Yeah I wasn’t the best of students, no priorities back then. I have been very successful in the Navy Reserve, I’m an E-3 and assigned as the units Assistant Training Officer. I’m placing on my application awards I’ve received from the Navy, 2 letters of appreciation from a CO and Hollins University for navy related work. I also put that I was just recently awarded Blue Jacket Sailor of the Quarter. Lastly I was awarded the Leadership award from the Military Order of the Purple Heart 2 years back. Under activities I placed my work as Scoutmaster (3 years), my 3 weeks with the Red Cross as a Hurricane relief volunteer in 2008 working down in Louisiana, and head coaching a little league soccer team. I’m going to get a letter of recommendation from my chief in charge of my unit and I want to get into the NROTC program there. I want to submit my application for early notification which I’ll have to do by October 1st. Is there a decent chance all that together and a good essay would push my way into Old Dominion University? I want to go into their Political Science (BS) program. Any help would be appreciated. The Navy changed my life and I want to become a commissioned officer. Serious answers only please.

You have done very well in the Navy Reserve. The average GPA for freshmen is 3 27.

You did not mention anything about taking either an SAT or ACT. Please study for one of them and either retake the exam or take it for the first time. Doing well on the test will enhance your ability for admission.

More information is below.

Good luck./
