Second Hand Drugs in your Tap Water

Medications are being produced and consumed in ever-increasing numbers. With this rise in consumption, researchers are finding the presence of these medications in our drinking water sources, which means they make it all the way through waste water treatment, into our water resources, through fresh water treatment and eventually into our home water supplies. These second-hand drugs include hormones, anti-cancer chemotherapy, birth control pills, caffeine, antibiotics, heart medications, painkillers, psychiatric drugs and others.

These medications not only come from consumers who excrete them from their bodies into the sewers, but from drug manufacturing companies, hospitals and clinics that discharge them into the sewers as well, along with being excreted from farm animals being treated with veterinary medications, where they percolate down into the ground and pollute underground water sources.

All water ultimately is recycled water, even though it has been treated before reaching our homes. What was once waste water eventually winds up in rivers, lakes or underground aquifers where municipalities obtain their water for their citizens. These drug “left-overs” had their pharmacological effect on the original medication consumers, and in turn can have unwanter residual effects on the next person drinking recycled tap water.

Some of these second-hand drugs are endocrine disrupters. They cause hormonal effects on the body which can lead to menstrual and reproductive abnormalities and breast cancer in women, and testicular cancer, infertility, feminization and gynecomastia (breast growth) in men. Also, the presence of antibiotics in our water supply is especially of concern to scientists who fear they may cause disease-causing bacteria to become resistant to treatment.

Some might think I am being over-concerned, but the problem has the attention of scientists both in the U.S. and in Europe, where medication consumption is the highest. Of even greater concern, is that is is expected that the number of medications that will be produced and consumed in the future will increase by twenty times over current numbers. This will surely increase the amount of second-hand drugs expected to pollute our water supply in the future, and municipal utilities cannot remove them from our water even now.

None of us wants to consume water that contains drugs that someone else had already taken and excreted. If we need medications for treatment, we prefer to go to a drugstore, thank you. The only way to ideally deal with this dilemma is to be proactive and filter your own water at home to remove these drug chemicals, which also has the benefit or removing other contaminants such as microorganisms, chlorine, pesticides, petrochemicals, toxic metals and more.

Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.

How can you drink alcohol and be against drugs without being a hypocrite?

Seriously? The same people that support drug prohibition usually have no problem picking up an alcoholic beverage. A drug is a drug, alcohol is a drug. To me, you can not use any substance and then have the nerve and turn around and tell people that they can not use another substance because you don’t agree with it. Alcohol has one of the, if not the worse withdrawal for people who are addicted. It’s sad really, because the intoxication level for alcohol is higher than most illegal drugs. If you don’t believe me, you can look it up yourself.

i agree with you

any mind altering substance is considered a drug…that includes alchohal

but really, everybody is on "drugs" Cafeen is considered a drug, tylonal is considered a drug, overthe coundter medicines are considered drugs……so when you think of it, everybody in the world, (including children) are on drugs…….the only difference is that some drugs are legal and others are not

Drugs and Treatments Used to Combat Alzheimer’s

Unfortunately, even though there is a huge amount of scientific research, no cure for Alzheimer’s exists at present. What is available is a number of scientifically proven treatments for the disease. Patient safety is one the core parts of treatment. Risks need to be limited with reference to driving, wandering and general accidents about the home.

A second major aspect of Alzheimer patient treatment is the education of this degenerative disease and its related effects with the family involved. Both support and education can minimize the need for skilled nurses and also lower caregiver stress and burnout.

The environment of the sufferer can be modified to promote their wellbeing. Research has found that simply re-coloring plates and cups with very bright colors promotes Alzheimer’s sufferers eating. Confusion can be reduced by keeping everything in a strict order.

Medicines used for Alzheimer’s can be administered to try to slow the diseases progression. Cholinesterase inhibitors are one such example, used when patients suffer from mid to strong Alzheimer’s dementia. This type of drug comes in many names; galantamine (Reminyl), donepezil (Aricept) and rivastigmine (Exelon). Positive effects that have been noticed are slight improvements in memory and language alongside increased ease of coping with daily chores and reduced aggressiveness.

Behavioral problems are minimized with a number of medications. A drug known as olanzapine (Zyprexa) and quetiapine (Seroquel) are frequently used for Alzheimer’s sufferers who have aggressive, agitative or hallucinatory tendencies. Both are strong tranquillizers. Depression is commonly combated with the anti-depressants citalopram (Cipramil), fluoxetine (Prozac) and sertraline (Lustral). Anxiety-relieving drugs you can obtain are diazepam (Valium), oxazepam (Oxazepam) and buspirone (Buspar). Anticonvulsant drugs are carbamazepine (Tegretol) or sodium valproate (Epilim).

What has always been very important is to ensure that the patient has exhausted all other forms of non-drug treatment before drugs have started to be used. Remember that particular combinations of drugs can counteract each others effects. Also, symptoms may actually worsen with the side effects that most drugs have. The chemistry and structure of the brain changes with the progression of this disease, drugs that did work may begin to lessen their effects, or in fact become useless, after a period of time. Drugs side effects should always be asked about with your local GP, dates when they should stop being administered also discussed.

The progression of Alzheimer’s has also been seen to slow when patients are given doses of 1000 IU vitamin E twice daily.

American Drug War: The Last White Hope: Pre Release Cut

American Drug War
The Last White Hope

35 years after Nixon started the war on drugs, we have over one million non-violent drug offenders living behind bars.

The War on Drugs has become the longest and most costly war in American history, the question has become, how much more can the country endure? Inspired by the death of four family members from “legal drugs” Texas filmmaker Kevin Booth sets out to discover why the Drug War has become such a big failure. Three and a half years in the making, the film follows gang members, former DEA agents, CIA officers, narcotics officers, judges, politicians, prisoners and celebrities. Most notably the film befriends Freeway Ricky Ross; the man many accuse for starting the Crack epidemic, who after being arrested discovered that his cocaine source had been working for the CIA.

AMERICAN DRUG WAR shows how money, power and greed have corrupted not just drug pushers and dope fiends, but an entire government. More importantly, it shows what can be done about it. This is not some ‘pro-drug’ stoner film, but a collection of expert testimonials from the ground troops on the front lines of the drug war, the ones who are fighting it and the ones who are living it.

After 4 years of production including several sold out test screenings in New York, Austin & Los Angeles, the final version of American Drug War “the last white hope” is locked and loaded.

What is your opinion on drugs that are said to be harmless?

I am fully aware that there are many drugs that are indeed harmful to users.

However, there are some drugs that do not have any permanent side effects (whether they be mental or physical) including chemical addiction. These drugs still remain illegal though they are far less dangerous than even alcohol.

What is your opinion on this?
Is there an explanation for why this is?

Our government is dominated by puritans.
