Anh Cao “Probably One-Term Congressman” After Voting For Health Reform
The morning after the House passed the health care reform bill 220-215, with the lone Republican vote from Rep. Anh “Joseph” Cao of Louisiana, McClatchy Newspapers’ Steve Thomma comments that Cao is “probably a one-term Congressman anyway” and alleges Cao “cut a deal with the White House” in making the vote.

So the kids brought home the health care debate again and now they want to keep it. And seeing how we’re in a good mood as the Mes hockey team beat Canada’s hockey team we said they could, as long as they feed it and promise it’ll never kill them…

The Health Insurance Game
This video is a skit written by supporters of HR 676 the single payer national health insurance bill in Congress (John Conyers – Michigan). All other industrialized countries have universal national health care. Their medical costs are far less than ours are in the United States but their health outcomes are as good or better.
Americans have seen their health insurance premiums increase by 87% from 2000 to 2006 while their earnings only increased by 20% and the average rate of overall inflation was 18% during the same time period (Kaiser Family Foundation).
Why does your health care cost so much?
Data from the Institute for Health and Socio-Economic Policy show that:
1. The top seven U.S. health insurers earned a combined $10 billion dollars – nearly triple their profits of 5 years earlier (Wall Street Journal, August 2006).
2. In 2004 top executives of the 11 largest health insurers made a combined $85 million per year in one year (Weiss Reports).
3. The 20 largest HMOs in the U.S. made $10.8 billion in profits in the fiscal year 2005. 12 top HMO executives pocketed $222.6 million in direct compensation in the fiscal year 2005.
4. Dr. William McGuire, CEO of UnitedHealthcare had $1.6 billion in exercisable options at the end of 2005 (CBN News, Oct. 16, 2006) in addition to his salary.
30%-35% of each dollar of your premium goes to pay for: executive salaries, administration, lobbying, marketing and other non-health care related costs.
It’s time for privately delivered health care with public funding – like our Fire Departments and Police. It’s time for HR 676.

Germany’s Health Care: Quality Care for All
With Congress back in session, debate over reforming the American health care system is once again in full swing. Supporters of universal health care want the U.S. system to be more like those in Europe, with the government taking an active role to guarantee coverage for everyone. Those who oppose drastic changes in the U.S. system say greater government involvement and universal coverage guarantees will push the U.S. toward socialism. Germans have the oldest universal health care system in Europe – its origins go back more than a century – and they are generally pleased with the care they receive. Is there a lesson there for America? VOA’s Sonja Pace reports from the German capital, Berlin.

Insurance Companies Confess in Court: “We Wouldn’t Pay a Dime” . . . unless sued!
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, insurance companies shifted wind damage claims to the National Flood Insurance Program that should have been covered by their own homeowners policies.
On June 9, 2009, the Mississippi Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the interpretation of the industrys anti-concurrent causation (ACC) clauses, which are buried deep inside homeowners insurance policies. The attorney for Nationwide, Christopher Landau, told the Supreme Court that Nationwide applies the ACC clause to exclude coverage of all damage caused by hurricane winds if subsequent flooding was sufficient to have caused the damage anyway.
In response to questioning, Landau answered that even if a house were 95 percent destroyed by winds before any flooding, Nationwide wouldnt pay a dime to the policyholder if the flooding was severe enough to have destroyed the house anyway.
Following this public admission in court, Rep. Gene Taylor (D-MS) explains how his proposed Multiple Peril Insurance Act solves this burdensome homeowner insurance crisis impacting Coastal Americans.
